lucent dossier at the edison ~ downtown LA

Lucent Dossier‘s first night as the house band circus at the Edison goes down tomorrow night.

The Edison is re-introducing and reinventing the spirit of cabaret. Reminiscent of Paris and Berlin of the early 20’s, Wednesday nights the venue is transformed into an exploration of the past — a peek into the decadent, sensuous underbelly of historic LA.

with an inadvertently steampunk twist.

ps. the edison’s site is just completely kiler! such a fantastic, immersive online experience. and if all of that doesn’t go to show how well-rounded this place’s kickassness is, Thursdays from 5-7 you can get martinis for .35 cents! what what!

the evolution of the LIB music player

LIB06:

an immobile little flash dookiy embedded in the site:

http://social-creature.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/04/lib06.jpg

up close it looked like this:

http://social-creature.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/04/lib061.jpg

at the time we thought it was quite the snazz.

LIB07:

we figured this kind of media thingie shouldn’t be trapped on our site, so we created a “portable” popup player that you could launch on our site, and then take along with you on your web travels:

http://social-creature.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/04/lib071.jpg

the other cool thing about this portable online player is that it linked back to the LIB site, allowing peolpe to return with one click at any time.

and that was fine and dandy until…

LIB08:

we made the music player embeddable! now not only does it move (it still comes in popup form, that you can grab on the site), but it also rolls over, fetches, and sits wherever you tell it to:

Buy Tickets Line Up Workshops Art Forum

oh yeah, and it also let’s people passs it on too :). (tho if you happen to be seeing this in a feedreader, you prolly won’t see it. to see–or rather, hear what i’m talking about click HERE.)

(thanks to brian shaw and y2 for making this fancy thing happen! our widget don’t mess!)

reality imitating art

from realitytvmagazine.com:

As if Hollywood’s not a circus enough as it is, ABC and NBC are both getting in on the action. Roll out the big top, guys, the circus is coming to town.

NBC has announced its plan to air Celebrity Circus, based on an Endemol format that’s been a huge hit in Portugal and Argentina, as part of its All-American Summer lineup.

Celebrity Circus, a competition-based reality show that will have “real” circus performers judging celebs on Cirque du Soleil-style circus stunts, promises to be “just as loud and noisy” as NBC’s winter slam-dunk, American Gladiators.

ABC is hoping that a new Circus of the Stars will catch on the way Dancing with the Stars has, and is in an intense bidding war for the show. Going for Dancing with the Stars-style drama rather than Gladiators-style boisterousness, ABC hopes Circus of the Stars will satisfy both the big top bug and reality fever.

which is funny for many reasons, but what i want to know is why the “quotes” around the word “real” before circus performers? is realittytvmagazine under the impression that real cricus performers don’t exist, that ABC will only hire “fake” ones, or that if you’re a circus performer you aren’t actually real?

anyway, in other “real” circus news…. we just announced the lineup for LIB08 today:

The image “http://lightninginabottle.org/2008/images/lineup.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.

ps. the music player on lightninginabottle.org is live now too. go check out some “real” music.
