I'd get mad when an idea didn't extend itself beyond the original movie, or tv show. So I have this sort of participatory expectation when I interact with pop culture. But like any medium, it does reflect the minds of the humans who make it. Good article, gives me some food for thought... Yeah, growing up with He-Man, Transformers, GI Joe et al, the idea that making a toy was anathema to the integrity of an idea has never been a part of it for me.
